LA Sax Big Lip X Resonators

Post by ZBUDDHA77 » Sun Nov 17, 2019 5:06 pm

Hello,
I play an LA Sax Big Lip X tenor sax, unlacquered. I’m not sure how old it is, and since LA Sax was bought by Geimenhardt, they aren’t able to tell me either.
Anyway, I haven’t ever come across resonators like these - they have Lila a baby bottle nipple on them. I’ll try to attach a pic.
Is anyone familiar with these?

I have an LA with those resos. These came out 3 or 4 years ago. I think these are really good horns. There are a few different LA model tenors that all have the numbers 308 in the model number. I have a couple different ones. I believe the ones with that number are the same horn with slightly different key work. For example some may have double arms on all the bell keys and others only on the low C and B keys.
I think the brand suffers from the 90's versions. These are nothing like those 90s horns. These are Made in Taiwan and as good as any other top Taiwan brand.

I love my tenor. I would love to play an LA Sax bari.
I know there is a lot of debate on this subject, but I think the combination of these resos and mine being unlacquered ads a warmness/darkness to the sound. But that’s my own opinion.
My only issue is that the low Eb key is too close to the D key. If I have the Eb key pressed a hair before pressing D, it gets in the way. But my repair guy said he can fix that by shaving a bit off the Eb key.
